"It was a homely little room, with a low
ceiling and a gaping fireplace... A brown chest
of drawers stood in one corner, a narrow
white-counterpaned bed in another, and a
dressing table on the left-hand side of the
window. These articles, with two small
wicker-work chairs, made up all the furniture
in the room save for a square of Wilton carpet
in the centre." |

"Dr.Grimesby Roylott's chamber was larger than

plain wooden chair against the wall, a round

The Adventure of the Speckled Band, one of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the eighth of the twelve stories collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
The story was first published in Strand Magazine in February 1892. Conan Doyle later revealed that he thought this was his best Holmes story.
Doyle wrote and produced a play based on the story. It premiered at the Adelphi Theatre, London in June 1910.
