1. LAST CALL FOR PLAYWRITING

Robert Vaughan    Saturday    April 1    9:30-3pm     $125

Put the Play in Playwriting! Beginning and experienced playwrights - and all writers who want to improve their skills - learn how premise, story, characters, dialogue and conflict work together to make a unique piece of theater. Topics include: writing the play, getting it read while in progress and getting produced as a playwright.

ROBERT VAUGHAN worked on and off in New York and Los Angeles theaters for more than 25 years. He acted in and directed over 50 plays, from musical theater and comedy to drama.  He taught workshops in several states and leads writers' roundtable groups at Redbird Studio in Milwaukee.

2. REDBIRD WRITERS' SHOWCASE (Main Floor)

Thursday, April 27    6:30-9pm     Open to the public (free-will donation)     Marian Center Social Room (on the main floor)

Representing Redbird roundtable writers: Tom Biel, Kirk Farber, Les Huisman, Doug Jacobson, Felicity Librie, Jon Olson, Karen McQuestion, Nick Petrie, Jeannee Sacken, Jean Scherwenka, Elaine Schmidt and Carol Wobig.

Come cheer the writers of Redbird! Laugh, listen and applaud as these representatives of our roundtable writers' groups read selected excerpts from published and in-progress novels, short stories, essays and poetry. Emcee: Robert Vaughan. Leader of the Pom Pom Squad: Judy Bridges.

3. AT LAST! A POETRY ROUNDTABLE

John Lehman, 1st Monday of every month starting in May.    May 4, Jun l, Jul 6, Aug 3    6:30-3 pm    $85

Okay, I admit it. John Lehman's poetry workshop was enough to get even me interested in poetry. I wrote. I learned. I didn't die from it. Now we're going to have the poetry roundtable people have been asking for -- the perfect chance for poets (new and experienced) to get the feedback and guidance they need to write well. The format is much the same as our other roundtables, except a difference in number of pages, etc. (See the web site for "How to get the most out of the Roundtable"). Monthly meetings are held here in Redbird Studio and led by Rosebud founder and Wisconsin Academy Review poetry editor, John Lehman.

4. AT LAST! A "GROUND FLOOR" ROUNDTABLE

Jo McReynolds-Blochowiak    2nd & 4th Thursdays   May 11, 25, Jun 8, 22    12:30-2:30pm    $85

True, the view from the studio can take your breath away -- and so can the climb up here. We hear many requests to have Redbird quality roundtables in more accessible places. Now, we got lucky. Jo McReynolds Blochowiak has agreed to lead a Redbird Writers' Roundtable right here in our building, on the first floor, in a room you can actually reach via feet or wheels. The format will be similar to our other roundtables, but open to new and experienced writers without the pre-req of Shut Up and Write! Jo teaches workshops at Alverno and many other locations in Milwaukee, and has a lot of experience helping people write.
